Business licenses are issued at Washington City Hall. All operating businesses are required to hold a current license from the City of Washington. Licenses must be renewed on an annual basis. Contact Yoshe Jenkins for more information.
Downtown businesses are required to obtain a sign permit before installing new building, window, or accessory signs. Contact Tia Derrico or Jimmy Toto for review and approval.

Any exterior change to a building within the city's Historic District requires a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) from the Washington Historic Preservation Commission. Exterior changes include the installation of new awnings, exterior painting, or any exterior facade changes. Contact Code Enforcement for a COA application. It is advised that anyone obtaining a COA also check with the city building official, Jimmy Toto, to determine if a building permit is needed as well.
You must have a local Pour License to sell or distribute alcohol in the City of Washington. Contact Jimmy Toto to first determine your establishment's eligibility to serve alcoholic beverages. Then contact Tia Derrico for the next step in the process.

The City of Washington provides water, electricity, and sewer service for the city. To begin service, complete the appropriate application and submit it to the Customer Service staff at City Hall located at 102 E. Liberty Street.
